PETRONAS unveiled its second floating LNG – FLNG DUA – during naming ceremony at Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard in Geoje, South Korea
PFLNG DUA has capacity to produce 1.5 million tonnes of LNG per annum and designed to operate with depths up to 1,500m. This floating LNG facility will be deployed in Rotan gas field located in deepwater Block H, offshore Sabah in 2020.
“The development of PFLNG DUA is a step forward in providing a new supply source of clean energy and in realising our shared aspiration for a low carbon future. As an integrated energy player, PETRONAS is fully invested to unlock the potential of natural gas through technology and innovative solutions.” said Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee, President and Group CEO of PETRONAS during naming ceremony today.
PETRONAS, in 2014, awarded the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract for this floating LNG to consortium of Japan’s JGC Corporation and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries. The consortium utilises JGC’s extensive experiences in onshore LNG EPC projects and Samsung Heavy Industries’ advanced shipbuilding to successfully delivered PETRONAS PFLNG DUA.
Floating LNG is a key solution to unlock the potential of remote gas field in a safe, economical and sustainable manner. Unlike onshore LNG facilities, which traditionally would require long-distance pipelines and extensive onshore infrastructure, floating LNG has the capability to produce, liquify, store and transfer liquified natural gas via carrier ship.
